Description
Sergiev Posad is a Russian city located in the Moscow region. To learn more about what makes it a special place, head out on this informative tour!
This town is home to a one-of-a-kind memorial to culture and art, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. Imagine — this place was once a nearly impassable thicket. In 1337 it was settled by Sergius Radonezhsky and his brother Stefan; three years later, they built a wooden church in honor of the Holy Trinity where those who wanted to live a monastic life began to gather.
Today the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is Russia's most prestigious monastery.
On this tour you will learn which members of important Russian dynastic families are buried in the Lavra (cemetery), what name one of the oldest bells in Russia goes by, why Ivan the Terrible patronized this particular monastery, and many other interesting facts.
