The St Petersburg International Hostel is the oldest in the city. During the Soviet times there were not many foreigners in St.Petersburg and therefore the demand in hostel accommodation was extremely low. It was quite a challenge to open it up in 1991 right after the Soviet Union had collapsed. This International Hostel was opened as a Russian-American joint venture according to the western hostel standards - very good central location, budget style, shared facilities, friendly service. It is the biggest hostel too - there are four floors, maximum capacity is 40 people. The hostel is a member of both Hostelling International and Russian Youth Hostels what guarantees you high-quality budget accommodation and service. The only disadvantage of this hostel is that reservation should be made long time in advance as it gets booked very quickly.
